The Battered Suitcase
Jenn Alexandra Anderson
In Memoriam
This issue of The Battered Suitcase is dedicated to artist Jenn Alexandra Anderson,
whose work appeared in our first issue. Jenn passed away on July 29, 2009, at the
age of twenty-four. She was a talented young woman; smart, funny, cheeky and a
pleasure to work with. It will be some time before things will be turned right-side-up
again.

Jenn Anderson was one of the first artists to appear in The Battered Suitcase,
appearing in our premiere issue in June 2008. She had a unique eye for collage
composition and a warm and fantastic visual wit. It was always a delight to look
through her portfolio and find the hidden jokes; a little Paris, a little punk; and
always a pleasure. She appeared again in our Halloween 2008 issue and it was
obvious how much she'd grown as an artist in just a few months. Many of the pieces
in our Autumn 2009 issue are wry, a little sinister, humorously dark, amusingly
morbid—so much like Jenn's own artwork—we'd like to think she'd appreciate and
approve our selections.

Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones and we share their loss. The world
is an emptier place for her absence and she will be missed. We are honored to have
been a part of her life and grateful for her to have been part of ours—we will keep
her always in our hearts and in our pages.
"Because I could not stop for death
He kindly stopped for me:
The carriage held but just ourselves
and immortality."
